How Much Does It Cost?

Iowa Medicare Part A Premium-free

You normally don’t pay a monthly premium during your coverage with Medicare Part A (Hospital In

surance) coverage. For example if you or your spouse paid Medicare taxes for a certain amount of time while working. Generally this is referred to as “premium-free Part A.”

In conclusion while most people get premium-free Part A, it’s important to make sure that your plan is right for you.

You can get premium-free Part A at 65 if:

  • Already get retirement benefits from Social Security or the Railroad Retirement Board.
  • If eligible to get Social Security or Railroad benefits despite not filing them yet.
  • You or your spouse had Medicare-covered government employment.

    Iowa Medicare Part A premiums

    When you buy Part A, you’ll pay up to $437 each month. If you paid Medicare taxes for less than 30 quarters, the standard Part A premium is $437. If you paid Medicare taxes for 30-39 quarters, the standard Part A premium is $240. For more detail contact one of our advisors.
